Life on the Road

Have you ever noticed that everyone is such a hurry anymore? It seems that no one has the time to stop and smell the roses. I have recently been trying to slow things down a bit. I am tired! Tired of constantly being on the go, tired of running here and there, just plain tired.

I am on a journey and I would like to try to enjoy it while it lasts because we are not here forever. Because of this, I am doing more of what makes me happy rather than what I do not enjoy. Of course we all have to work but can"t we enjoy our work? I think this is where we go wrong. We choose a career because it pays well or it will put our name "out there" but shouldn"t we enjoy what we HAVE to do every day? We all want to make lots of money or be rich and famous, but we also know this does not happen to many people. So, what I suggest is that you find what you LOVE to do and figure out how to make money with it.

That said, this will be a testament to my journey. I am starting here. I love to write so I am going to try to do something with that. As I find things that work I will let you know and as I find things that do not work, I will also let you know. Maybe someone can use this information to do the same. I will try to get on at least once a day to update.

My other endeavor is to start eating a more clean diet. I plan on starting a garden for vegetables and cooking more things from scratch. As I find recipes that are good  I will pass them along to you. No more buying bread for me either. Starting today I will be making my own as well.

I hope that someone finds this information useful.

Blogging201: Social Media

[caption id="attachment_94" align="alignnone" width="300"]Picture from http://www.forbes.com/sites/insider/2014/11/10/social-media-for-attorneys-good-business-or-ethical-minefield/ Picture from http://www.forbes.com/sites/insider/2014/11/10/social-media-for-attorneys-good-business-or-ethical-minefield/[/caption]

So, today is all about social media. I have the sharing buttons and the connect buttons on my page already however, I did make an adjustment today because Krista suggested making a page to connect Facebook with my readers. So I now have a new page on Facebook! I am not exactly sure what I am going to do with it yet, but I"m sure that will come. I look forward to connecting with my readers there as well as here.

I chose Facebook because I already have an account with them and decided this would be the easiest way to start trying to make the most of social media. Hopefully I will be able to post projects I am doing, while in the works, and before posting them here. I have a few ideas that I look forward to sharing very soon (as soon as the monsoon season here is over).

I love Facebook because you can connect with people around the world. This has been a curiosity of mine as I love to see how other people live. Facebook give us a way to do this. When you make "friends" on Facebook you get to see their pictures and a glimpse of what they do and who they are. I love this! Getting to know new people is so interesting to see the differences in the way we live compared to how others live. Social media is wonderful for this very thing.

I look forward to sharing with you both here and on Facebook!

See you soon,

Renee

Blogging 201: Make the most of your Archives

TGIF everyone!

Today is all about the past! Why? Because the archives section of the blog shows your posts from the past.

I have already added this to my site but I wasn"t sure if I should or not. So today"s blogging 201 told me I was doing something right....YAY! I know I worry to much about the little stuff but I am new and still really have no idea as to what I am doing...lol. I guess one could say that I am playing it be ear...which in itself is a little scary for me. I like to have a plan.

Another suggestion that was made was link content to previous posts. I"m not sure how to do this yet but I will figure it out and start using this as well in the future. Maybe I could add this to my goals for the site. Hey! look at that. Thank you McCallister sculpture for the information on how to do this.

Well today is short and sweet. I have a lot of homework to do still today.

Have a wonderful day!

Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. Blogging 201: Give em What They Want

Creative abstract business success, financial growth and development concept: color growing bar graphs with red rising arrow and colorful pie chart isolated on white background with reflection effect

So, today is about the stats. Looking at mine (which is mighty slim at the moment since I"ve only been up and running for about a week) I am actually quite impressed. I already have followers! Granted for the time being it is only 3 but in line with my goals I am working on that part as well. I know that we are supposed to publish our best stuff on the day that we have the most views, but I am not quite that organized just yet. I usually write the post and publish it the same day...lol. This is yet another thing I guess I need to work on.

As I was looking at a few other blogs, some say they set up something to publish a post ahead of time so they can write it and leave it I guess. I think in the future this may be something I will look into, but for the moment I will continue to do it this way.

I have to say, that for a new blogger, this blogging 201 course has been a lifesaver. I really wasn"t sure what I was doing or going to do for this. I just knew that I wanted to start a blog. I wasn"t sure what I wanted to write about (and I"m still not..lol) or how to go about it. The girls (and/or guys) that are running this thing are amazing and have a lot of good information so far. I cannot wait to see what the rest of the course will bring.

Blogging 201: Read all over

OK, for today"s assignment we are to make sure we are "read all over". What this means is to make sure our blog looks good and is readable across all devices. Personally I prefer working from my tablet, but we all have our own favorite way of reading blogs. So, for those of you who use your tablet, computer, and yes even your phone should have a pretty good view of my site. According my customizer   on the phone my site should look like this:

Screenshot (1)

Which is just about the same way it looks on my tablet with a few exceptions. The Sidebar menus are at the bottom of the screen instead of on the side, but I guess I can live with this as there really is no other way for it show on a phone...;)

The tablet seems to look pretty much the same as the computer but obviously a little smaller. All in all though, from what I can tell, my site should look pretty good across all devices. If not, please let me know and I try to tweak it a bit more to ensure it does look good. Of course any and all reviews of my site will be taken into consideration and greatly appreciated. With that in mind, any suggestions on how to make it look better would be very helpful to me as I am so very new at this.

Well I gotta run. School work awaits...YAY!(Can you see the sarcasm here...lol). Have a great day!

Blogging 201: Day 2 Branding

The project for today is branding. Do you have a certain store you shop at or a certain brand you buy every time you need to? This is branding! We become selective in what we buy, and what we watch, and what we do (or well some of us anyways....LOL) and this in turn becomes a part of who we are.

With that in mind, since I am so new at this. I want to try to find something that fits me, something that shows you who I am in a nutshell. I am trying a new background to see how this one feels to me. I will also be playing with the fonts, headings, and other things on the site to find something (Hopefully) that really fits with who I am and who I want to show to you. Hopefully I will pick something permanent soon. Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

It is hard to find something that will fit every person but this is what we try to do. We try to find something that will tell you, the reader, who we are in a picture or in a few words. I know that we have all heard not to judge a book by it"s cover, but how many times do we do this anyway? I know that I am guilty of it although I am working on this as well.

Hope your having a great night, signing off for now.

Working

Ok. To be more accountable to you and to myself I am working on setting three goals for my blog. The questions we are to answer are: Why do you blog? I think I am doing this more for myself than anything else. Writing everything down helps me to get my head clear. Second question is: If your blog exceeded your wildest dreams, what would that look like? I think for me this would be that people are interested in what I have to say...lol. I am not sure that I am really leading an interesting enough life to be doing this. I guess if I can help even one person through anything then I have done a good enough job.

So, the three goals for my blog are this:

  1. Get more readers by the end of the year.

  2. Publish at least 4 days a week.

  3. Spend time on my followers posts.

In setting these three goals, I am pledging to be more active with my blog and with anyone who decides to follow my blog. I hope to start meeting you soon.

Quote of the day for October 27, 2017

Yikes!

Life with anxiety sucks! It seems that every time I need to go somewhere it kicks in high gear. As long as I am just sitting here at the house it really isn"t a problem. My daughter gets so upset that I cannot seem to leave the house most days. I imagine that has got to be hard on a teenager, not being able to leave the house because mom can"t drive her anywhere.

I think though, I have finally found a medication that works for me so I have been getting out a little more often. Of course, not very far most days. This is awful when you need to go grocery shopping and the nearest store is 20 miles away. Thankfully I have a very understanding husband who usually drives us in on the weekends. I just know that for him the weekends are the only time that he can relax and because of me he has to go to town again.

I keep working toward finding the reason behind my anxiety so that maybe I can do what everyone seems to think is the way to get over anxiety and just "get over it". That would be great. I"ve been told the only way to work through it is to figure out the reason behind it. I would so love to do this as I am tired of not being able to just jump in the truck and go. I used to spend my days off from work on the road. I saw the grand canyon this way and the petrified forest (If  you are going to the petrified forest don"t make the same mistake I did and go in February...lol. There was snow on the ground still). Now I am lucky if I can even go to the Giant station a few miles from my house.

Anyway, I will continue to work on finding the cause of my anxiety and continue living one day at a time until I do.

I made my first two loaves of actual real bread and the family LOVED them! They only lasted over night...LOL. I love trying to make new things and actually getting it right!

bread

I have a bread machine but the bread is so big that no one would use it. So I figured I needed to do something different. I found this recipe and gave it a try. It really was so easy. It takes a while but what good thing doesn"t take time...Right?

The outcome was amazing! It has just a touch of sweetness to it that makes it perfect with or without butter (or anything else for that fact). My father who only eats wheat bread even loved this and told me he would use it if I were to make it every day. I picked up a bread slicer guide for almost nothing at a yard sale in the area so I can even cut it into neat even slices. I think I learned the hard way though that the best way to cut bread is after it has cooled. Every time I would try to cut it just out of the oven it would squish and not do very well.

I have been trying to do more from scratch since it is so much more healthy than store bought junk. However, my family does not seem to appreciate this...LOL. They believe I am only doing this because I have too much time on my hands. Like raising a family, cleaning the house, going to school, and working a part time job leaves me much time. But I guess let them think what they will. Apparently I am pretty good at making it look easy I guess.

Bread!

OK. So in my attempt to slow things down a bit I have come across a few good recipes for bread. Since finding these recipes I have not bought bread because they are fabulous! I want to share them because they are so good and because we need to start looking at where our food comes from. There are so many artificial products that are sold every day, but do we really know where any of it comes from. The more you do yourself, the fewer chemicals and toxins you will ingest. The first recipe for white bread is from the website "Dinner with the Bickfords".  This particular recipe is for the bread machine.  My husband recently bought me one and I was determined to use it. The recipe is so simple, I thought "This will not turn out alright, it"s too easy". However, to my surprise it was amazing!

1. In bread machine place, water, oil, and salt

1 1/3 cup warm water
1/3 cup oil
2 tsp salt

2. Add flour on top of liquids. Place sugar in one corner. Make a well in the flour and place yeast in the well.

4 cups flour
2 tbsp and 2 tsp sugar
3 tsp yeast

3. Start bread machine! I use the basic bread setting on mine and it takes about 2 and 1/2 hours.

For those who prefer Wheat bread, no worries! I have you covered as well. My father will only eat wheat bread so I had to find one that he would like. After many near misses, I finally found one that he likes too. This recipe comes from bread machine recipe. Again this is for the bread machine.

1. Add water, butter, and salt to the bread machine.

1 1/4 cup water
1 1/2 tsp butter
1 3/4 tsp salt

2. Add flour, sugar, and yeast on top of liquids.

1 3/4 cup wheat flour
1 3/4 cup flour
1 3/4 tsp sugar
1 3/4 tsp yeast

3. Start bread machine! I use the basic loaf setting on my machine which takes about 2 and 1/2 hours to finish.

Another great way to know what chemicals one is taking in is to make your own butter as well. I use an organic whipping cream and put it the food processor. This takes about 5 min or so. This will produce both butter and buttermilk. Separate the two and you can use the buttermilk for other recipes as well. As the whipping cream starts to form the butter you will notice liquid also forms. This liquid is the buttermilk. To get all of the liquid out of the butter just press the butter in cheese cloth after it"s done. I hope you enjoy these recipes as much as I do.

Odd Jobs

Ok. So on the slowing down I am not sure things are going so well as I seem to be more busy lately than usual. LOL. I am beginning to wonder in this fast paced world, if one really can slow down.
I have come across a few good ways to make money from home and most of them require mostly nothing but clicking a few links.  One I have already received payment from is Inbox dollars. They give you $5.00 to sign up and send you email that you click the link and earn money from. They also have other things you can do to make money. They require $30.00 before you can cash out and it usually takes me a couple weeks to a month to come to this balance. The link to sign up if interested is http://www.inboxdollars.com/?r=ref15111663.
Another one that I like is Mypoints. This is another one that pays you for doing certain things. I have also been paid on this one several time. They don"t offer a link to sign up but if you do sign up and are asked if you were referred please mention my name.
Ebates is another site that pays you to shop online. They send a check every couple of months and you earn cash back on purchases you make online. If you do any online shopping at all this is one to check out. The link to sign up is http://www.ebates.com/rf.do?referrerid=A%2F%2BXP%2FRtQW2pKMMpZNQW9w%3D%3D&eeid=26471. I have already been paid by this one twice so they do pay when they say they will. My next check comes next month!
These are the only ones I have actually been paid through so far but I am looking at other websites similar to these. I will post them here also if they actually pay out. I would hate to post something that I am unsure of. So look forward to seeing more links like this.

Bluetooth Ear Bud Review

I received this Bluetooth Ear Bud for free or at a discount for my honest review. This post may contain affiliate links. This means if you make a purchase I may receive a commission at no extra cost to you. You can see my full disclosure Here.

I have been looking for a new set of ear buds for a while now. My daughter stole the last pair I got so I will be guarding this one with my life..lol. I love to listen to music but haven"t had the ability for a while now because I haven"t had a speaker or ear buds.

Bluetooth Ear Bud http://amzn.to/2gOURdo

I have to say that I really didn"t think that I would like this because there is only 1 ear bud, but I have to say that I actually do like it because I can still hear what"s going on around me. This is also a downside to this product. It doesn"t block out everything because it"s only 1 ear bud. However, I have noticed that people are no longer having to come up and tap me on the shoulder to get my attention any more.
