Getting Ready for Fall - Goats

So here, when fall finally decides to come, we start getting everything together for kidding in the winter time. Because it stays so mild here, we don't have to do as much as some in other areas. We don't usually have to worry about heat because it doesn't get cold to the extreme here. Although we do hit freezing and below occasionally so we do try to have heat lamps and warming blankets on hand, just in case.

In the fall we start our breeding. We only have three to breed so far this year so it will be once a month. Falene was in last month so she will be due in January (providing she took). Astra is in this month so she will be due in February. Then either October or November, Desi will go in with Huckleberry making her due April or May. We are starting to gather everything that will be or might be needed during kidding so that we have it all on hand by the time the kids start to get here.

The other thing we do to get ready for winter, is to make sure that everyone has a good layer of bedding in the shelters. We use the hay they waste for this and just pile it in the shelter. This helps them to hold their body temps at night if it does get colder here.

Thankfully, that is really all we have to do to get ready for winter with the goats. I would love to hear what you have to do to get ready for winter. Leave me a comment below and let me know!

Have a great day!

Fall with Chickens

So with fall moving in (well in some places anyways), it's a good time to look at how the chickens are going to do over the winter months. Here winter is only a couple months a year, normally December to February. But we do still have to make sure that the coop is sound and a bit less drafty.

As you can see by the above picture, we keep it fairly open in the summer so they can every breeze that happens to come through. This is one of the ways that we help to cool them down in the summer here. That and a lot of water all over the place. So as fall comes in we will need to make sure we have the wood or tin on hand to cover up the coop and make it more air tight to help keep them warm over night in the winter.

Anywhere that the coop is open for the summer will need to be covered for the winter. They do have a pretty good area outside of the coop so we usually close it off a bit so they only have the better built area available during the night. This makes it easier to keep them warm because it's a smaller space.

So over the next couple months, we be making sure we have everything to close up the coop for the winter. How do you keep your chickens warm in the winter? Leave a comment below and let me know.

Have a great day!

I am always looking for new ways to enjoy different movies or television shows and in 2021 there will be a new one on the scene.

There doesn't appear to be an actual release date on this yet, the website just states early 2021. They are offering the chance to pre-register so that when they do release this new platform you will be ready to start enjoying it right away.

This is supposed to have new movies right away and there is no monthly fee for this service. As far as I can tell, this will be a pay per view type platform for movies. This means that you will have no monthly fee, but you would pay for each movie you want to watch. I am unsure if they will have free movies on the site at this point. I imagine it's always a possibility though.

Pre-registration is easy, you simply give them an email and they will let you know when the service is up and running. You can do that here:

Glasstic Water Bottle

This post may contain affiliate links. This means if you make a purchase, I will receive a small commission at no cost to you.  I received this Glasstic Water Bottle for free or at a discount for my honest review.

I have to say this is a pretty neat water bottle. It comes with like 5 different designs that you can choose from to place in between the glass and plastic outer lining to make it completely yours.

This is the sleeve that my daughter chose to put in it. I can't remember all of the sleeves but there is one that says peace and purple flames but those are the only ones I can recall at the moment. The inner section that your drink goes into is glass. The outer shell is plastic.

It unscrews both top and bottom. The top is obviously to fill the water bottle. The bottom unscrews so that you can change the sleeve if you want to or just to put in the one you decide on. The glass section comes out and you put the sleeve inside then replace the glass section. Replace the screw on bottom and your done. You have made this water bottle your very own.

You can get this water bottle here:

I would love to know if you have this or get this. I would love to hear your thoughts on this Glasstic Water Bottle.

Have a great day!

Thought Catapulter

This post may contain affiliate links. This means if you make a purchase, I will receive a small commission at no cost to you. I received the Thought Catapulter for free or at a discount for my honest review. To see my full disclosure, click here.

This product is a little different from what I usually review, but I think it could be a help to others.

This little package is put together to help you put your intentions out to the universe. There are affirmations that you can put in the bag that are already written. This means if they already have what you want to manifest, you just cut that square out and add it to the bag. However, if what is ready made doesn't fit, there are also blank spots so that you can write your own.

I am a big believer that what thoughts you put out to the universe will come back to you. In other words, if you think negatively, negative things will happen. But if you think positively, then positive things will happen to you. This is a big part of why negativity seems to breed more negativity. If you want positive you must be positive.

So the way this works is that you put your affirmation into the bag and wear it. You want to make sure you continue to think about your affirmation every day. Now, let me tell you this is not a quick fix for anything, it takes time. It takes intention. It takes work, but you can make your dreams come true with this Thought Catapulter if you put in the work to make it happen.

You can get this here:  Do your own research on setting intentions and decide if this could be something to help you with it. I would love to hear your thoughts about this item. Leave me a comment below and let me know.

Have a great day!

Fall Garden

So, it's time to shift from summer to fall and with that comes the planting of the fall garden. Here in Arizona, our growing season is so much longer than most other places because we don't usually have our first frost until November so that gives us time to plan for the fall garden to carry us through most of winter.

So while some of our summer garden is still producing, Aarron has been removing what is done and replacing them with fall items like broccoli, cauliflower, and lettuce. This will allow us to have fresh vegetables long into the winter months. I think this is probably the main reason I love living in Southern Arizona.

Then we also have the greenhouse to use and run us through the rest of winter. Of course my greenhouse is usually more about herbs and medicinal plants, but we have used it to carry over tomatoes through the winter.

So I can't wait to continue showing you and telling you what is coming out of the garden here as the year progresses.

Have a great day!

Preserving Vegetables

It's that time of year that we shift our focus from tending to preserving. What are the ways that you preserve what comes out of your garden? Canning? Freezing? Drying?  There are so many different ways that you keep your veggies good until you are ready to use them.

Up until this year, we either used what we got right away or I would freeze the items that we could freeze until I was ready to use them. But this year, I got my canner finally! So I have been patiently waiting to use it.

Of course there are still some things that we will freeze (like corn) and dry (like basil), but having the pressure canner brings on a whole new dimension to preserving our veggies. I am so looking forward to having beans and corn during the winter months which is something we have not been able to do until now.

So if you are in the market for a new pressure canner I would recommend this one from Lehman's
It works amazing and seems to be pretty stout so I think it will last for years. Do you have a canner that you prefer over all others? I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Have a great day!
