Greenhouse Progress

The Green house is growing so well right now. I've gotten a cucumber, basil, parsely, and several bell peppers so far this year. I have a few tomato plants growing but so far no fruit from it. I think it's because I don't have the bees going in there yet, but I'm not sure.

My bell pepper plant has a couple bell peppers on it right now that aren't quite ready to pick but should be pretty soon. It's growing pretty big thankfully. I thought we lost them with the frost this year but thankfully they came back nicely.

My basil is doing really well. I've already harvested it several times over and it's almost ready to harvest again. I do however, have something eating at it, you can see some of the leaves have holes in them. I'm not sure what is doing this yet, but we will figure it out and fix it soon.

My grape vine in the corner is growing like crazy, but so far, there is no fruit growing on it. I was told that banana peel could help with this so I'm going to try that and see what happens. I am still hopeful that I will get fruit from this yet this year. I'll let ya know. The one we have in the back yard though has 2 bunches of grapes on it so we are just waiting for them to mature.

Have a great day!

Garden Progress

Oh my gosh! I am so proud of my husband! He started this garden and has been working it every day to make it what it is today. Every time he harvests something, he plants something else to take it's place. It's not working out exactly how we planned, but it's working. I think it has provided more food for the animals than it has for us, but that's ok too because that cuts down on the food bill.

We have gotten more squash and zucchini than we know what to do with! Much of this has been going to the animals. We will usually put it in the fridge so that it's a bit of cold treat for animals in the middle of the day and they seem to love it!

Above is the entire garden with Hubby next to it for size reference. It's huge! And he claims he can't grow a thing. I think he just never tried before now because he is doing an amazing job with this. He has planted buckwheat and wheat and sunflowers to name just a few. The sunflowers have produced amazingly. He planted black oil sunflower seeds specifically for the animals and they have been going crazy over it. The chickens are loving them too!

I am just so thrilled that he has made this happen. It would be nice if we could get a little bit for us too though. Well the beans are growing well too so that will help. Does anyone know if you have to cook beans before you can them or is it better to just store them dry?

Have a great day!

Milking

This post may contain affiliate links. This means if you make a purchase, I will receive a small commission at no cost to you.

When you own goats, it's very likely that you will need to milk them. There are some simple, but essential items you will want to have on hand when that time comes.

The first and probably most important thing you will need is your stanchion. This is the easiest way to keep you doe still while you milk.

This doesn't have to be expensive, it just has to work. My husband and my neighbor's dad built this one from scraps we had laying around the house. The board at the front will pivot to hold the doe's head. This is what keeps her on the stand. We have a chain that goes across her neck and attaches to the other side to hold her. There is also a small feeder on the front that I put sweet feed in to keep her occupied while I milk.

The next thing you will need is a bucket for water and rags. You'll want to wipe down her teats before milking to make sure they are clean. Warm water is nice but just water will do. You will also need a stainless steel bucket to milk into if you are going to milk by hand. I use an electric milker that my husband made for me so I use dark amber mason jars to hold the milk.

Finally you want something to help fight mastitis and other bacteria from getting into the udder after milking. I use Fight Bac for this but there are so many other options as well. You can do a search online to find something that will work for you, or you can purchase this one through the link on Amazon.

These, in my opinion, are the most important things to have when you start milking your goats but I'm sure other people have other items they keep on hand as well. If you have something that you refuse to go to the milk stand without, please leave me a comment below and let me know what it is!

Have a great day!

Coming Home by Molly Lyions

This post may contain affiliate links. This means if you make a purchase, I will receive a small commission at no cost to you. To see my full disclosure, click here.

This is another good book by Molly Lyions. This one is different from her other series but I liked it just as much. This book is about a mob queen that comes back home to her family after her husband is killed. It goes through all the pain that goes with that and the danger that one could face going through this.

All Eden wants is to get her kids back and live a normal life. It's a struggle from the beginning but so worth it in the end. I found this book easy to read and I finished it in a couple night because I didn't want to put it down. The characters are well written. I really love the way this author writes and can't wait to read more of her stuff.

You can get this book here: Coming Home

I would love to know if you have read this book. Leave me a comment below and let me know!

Have a great day!

Trinity: A Phoenix Rising Novel By Molly Lyions

This post may contain affiliate links. This means if you make a purchase, I will receive a small commission at no cost to you. To see my full disclosure, click here.

I hope that you saw my review of the Phoenix Rising Trilogy, because this is another in that same series. This book however, is from the viewpoint of Trinity whom you meet late in the original series. This book goes into the story a little more from Trinity's point of view and what happens to her. You also find out why she did what she did in the original series. The series is about the end of the world as we know it. These are really good books.

I really enjoyed reading this book and I look forward to her other books on different points of view of the different characters in the book. I love being able to find out more about the different people in the book. I am really looking forward to her book about Gage. He is another character in the original book.

This was actually the first book I read from Molly Lyions. I borrowed it from my neighbor who happens to be her sons friend. While this book does go along with the series, you can read this one on it's own and it still makes perfect sense. It actually made me want to read the series. If you have time, check out the book you won't be sorry!

Have a great day! Renee

Bath Pillow

This post may contain affiliate links. This means if you make a purchase, I will receive a small commission at no cost to you. I received this Bath Pillow for free or at a discount for my honest review. To see my full disclosure, click here.

I'm not really a "bath" person, but I do enjoy the occasional one now and then. I dislike trying to relax in the bath tub because the back is so hard I cannot get comfortable. I am hoping this will change that.

This pillow has a piece on it that will allow you to hang it to dry after your bath so that it won't mildew or mold. It feels soft so I am hoping that it will comfortable in the bath tub. On the rare occasion that I do take a bath, I like to relax and soak for a while so I am hoping this will make it more comfortable.

There are many of these pillows out there. I would say go with this one because it does have the hanger on it. This just makes it easy to make sure it dries out good. I also like the material used on the outside of this pillow. It seems like a kind of mesh but it doesn't scratch at you like some mesh does. I really like the design on this pillow.

You can get this pillow on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZPQQ4HG?ref=myi_title_dp
If you do purchase this, I would love to hear your thoughts on it. Leave me a comment below!

Have a great day!

It's time for me to get a new pair of glasses. I think I have been wearing the ones I have right now for at least 4 years so it's definitely time for new. I am so thankful that I found these.

They have the option of prescription if you have your numbers available.  I haven't been to the ophthalmologist in several years so I don't have mine. These have just plain lenses in them right now, but I can have my prescription added to them when I get my eyes checked.

They have so many frames to choose from I had a hard time deciding which ones to go with but I finally settled on these. The prices are affordable too.

So excited to be partnering with @firmoo_optical. They offer Free Pair of Glasses for new customers exclusively! Use code: AUFFF or click https://bit.ly/2U80c3x to get one right now! Shipping fee is needed.
